Wat Phra Thong in Thalang is known for its golden Buddha image, of which only the upper part is visible above the ground.
According to local legend, a boy once tied his buffalo to what appeared to be a tree stump; villagers later discovered it was the top of a Buddha image. Attempts to uncover the entire statue failed, and a temple was built around it.
Big Buddha Phuket

Phuket Big Buddha: A Landmark of Faith
High on Nakkerd Hill stands Phuket’s Big Buddha, formally named Phra Phuttha Ming Mongkhon Eknakkhiri. The 45 metre white marble statue was created as a place of worship and was recognised as a symbolic Buddha image of Phuket in 2008.
For local people, it is a place of faith; its hilltop setting also offers sweeping views across the island.

According to local legend, a young boy once tied his buffalo to what he believed was a post in a field, which was later discovered to be the top of a buried Buddha statue. Attempts to unearth it were met with mysterious obstacles, so a shelter was built around it instead.
The temple also houses a museum with historical objects and everyday items from the island's past. Please dress respectfully and keep your voice low around the worship areas.
